My Hands On Math

Roll's Food is my store. I shop in it for Math.  It is a Math store.  My friend, Miss Aunt Diane, thought the prices were so good because they were only 42 cents and below.  Here's a tour of the store...

I pick two items to buy at a time.

I am... hmm what am I doing?... Oh yes, I am writing down the prices on my receipt.  Then I have to add up the two prices to find the total.  I am using real money to find the total.

I am soooo excited that I got the answer right!

Mom has to steal most of our stuff because she has to cook with them.  And she doesn't even let us buy them back.  I like shopping at Roll's Food!

~Mom here... Saxon, our Math curriculum, has us doing a lot of hands on activities.  I think it's great for these early ages.  It sometimes takes more prep time and sometimes takes over part of the dining room for a month or more, but it's worth it.  When you see your 6 (now 7) year gaining an understanding of place value and adding money and having fun... it's worth it. ~

Happy Shopping!

(and if you find a real store where the products are all under 42 cents - LET ME KNOW!)

My first mention! If I could shop at a store where everything was 42 cents or below, I might even stop liking Wegmans. (Unlikely on all accounts, though.)
